The Lucknow Festival is organized in the months of November-December in the capital city of Uttar Pradesh. This festival carries on for ten days and aims at bringing to the forefront the eternal grace and finery of Awadh, the present day Lucknow. With an emphasis on its arts, crafts and the mouth-watering cuisine, the Festival of Lucknow takes us on a cultural tour of the city. It tries to recreate the magic of the old, cultured atmosphere of the city.
The major attractions of the Lucknow Festival of Uttar Pradesh include colorful processions, traditional dramas, Kathak dances in the style of the famous Lucknow gharana, sarangi and sitar recitals, etc. Ghazals, qawwalis and thumri performances further add to the enjoyment. Then, there are a number of competitions like ekka races, kite flying, cock fighting and other traditional village games, etc. Last but not the least, the local handicrafts of Lucknow are also on display at the festival.
